What is Career Counseling?
A process that is used to help students and alumni to develop an increased awareness and understanding of self and how it relates to the world of work in order to make better career, educational, and life choices. Learn about how students and alums schedule a career counseling appointment.
When to refer your student to a Career Counselor?
Please refer your student to Career Services when they need assistance with the following:
- Choosing or changing a major
- Choosing or changing a career and graduate school plans
- Graduate school application and personal statements
- Developing resumes and cover letters
- Finding internship, externship or co-op positions
- Finding a full-time job
- Interviewing strategies
- Considering a job offer (salary negotiation)
- Easing anxiety about the job search or graduation
- Exploring their personality type and/or career-related interests
- Building or connecting with their network
We also offer drop-in services for basic services such as resume and cover letter feedback and help with Beaver JobNet. Drop-In Hours are Mon-Thurs, 1-4pm in Career Services, basement of Kerr.
Who are our Career Counselors?
Marian Moore - Career Counselor & Career Development Coordinator
Interests and Specialty: Career development/counseling, career coaching, personal branding, talent management, human rights, international education, entrepreneurship and global social and economic development. Worked extensively with diverse populations, survivors of torture/war and other vulnerable populations. Actively engage others in the career development process, empower others to seek purposeful careers, and help others to explore and embrace their passion.

Carolyn Killefer - Career Counselor
Interests and Specialty: Collabortively working with talented college students to support the process of career exploration and development through identifying and enhancing strengths, interests, values, and goals that make each individual "who they are" as well as what career path is right for them so they can make their aspirations a reality. Worked extensively with diverse populations, trauma and mental health.
Liaison: Education, Pharmacy, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Sciences, Graduate School
Malia Arenth - Career Counselor
Interests and Specialty: Strengths-based support and counseling for career and educational development with a focus on the individual skills, interests and passion each student brings to the table. Creating personal brands and taking control of one’s work and educational identity and looking at life/career path holistically. Background in writing/communication, mental health counseling, and have worked extensively with diverse populations of people experiencing life transitions, loss, trauma, and recovery.
Kyle Cassady - Career Counselor for Extended Campus
Interests and Specialty: As a career counselor for Ecampus students, I provide support for career exploration and decision making. I help students identify and strengthen their values, interests, and goals, seek experiences intentionally and access university/community resources that will enhance their career development.
Jen Busick Stewart - Career Advisor & Outreach Coordinator
Interests & Specialty: Advises students about internship and job search, applying to graduate school, resumes/cover letters, and interviewing. Organizes and updates resources, manages website and social media for Career Services and coordinates outreach opportunities and marketing.
Liaison: International Student Advising & Services, Disability Access Services, University Marketing, Ecampus
Jessica Baron - Graduate Assistant/Career Advisor
Interests and Specialty: Advising students on resumes, cover letters, and graduate school applications, especially personal statements and writing samples; carrying out mock interviews with students to help build solid interviewing skills; giving outreach presentations for classes, student groups, and organizations; helping OSU students connect with the careers that make them happy.
